When asked the ‘secret’ to such a fabulous appearance, these proud auto enthusiasts unanimously confess – “Start with a cool car”. Since most of us don’t have access to an indoor space with proper drainage we usually wash our cars outdoors in the heat. It is the heat which causes you to work too fast as you realize the car is drying before you’ve finished washing your targeted area. Not to mention those ugly streaks and unsightly water spots caused by the drying soap. Take the time to find a spot in the shade and you’ll be rewarded with splendid results. Also, give your car a thorough hose down to loosen the dirt and ensure the car is cool. Just by starting with a cool car, you’re already on your way to a show quality finish. To make your car look like the professionals, be sure you wash the following areas.

Clean the Wheel Wells – After hosing the car, hose inside each of the wheel wells to remove the road muck that’s accumulated.

Clean the Entrance of the Car – Don’t neglect to open the doors and clean all the metal and plastic surfaces of the entire entranceway with soap and water. Once dry, treat the plastic surfaces with a preservative.

Clean around the Hood and Trunk openings – When left wet and unclean, water from around these edges may dribble down and ruin your freshly washed car. It only adds a minute or two to your car care task, but it can be the make or break difference in achieving a superb result.

Clean the Pedals – These car parts are going to eventually show the most wear, but at least they can be kept clean. Attention to little details like this will pay-off tremendously at trade-in time.

Cleaning the Windows – If your car has factory-tinted windows, practically any glass cleaner is fine. But if you purchased window tint in the aftermarket, use caution. Most glass cleaning products contain ammonia. Ammonia will eventually turn aftermarket tint-coated glass purple.

Dry the Car with a Chamois – To completely dry your car use a Chamois. This step begins the process of preparing the surface of your car for a lustrous show quality appearance. Professional auto detailers consider wiping your car with a chamois a mini buff job.

As your car care awareness increases you’ll start to really appreciate what a good regular washing does for your car. Not only will your cars’ appearance be show quality, additionally you’ll increase the return on your investment should you decide to sale or trade-in.
